The Bee
Garden
The Bee Garden was created during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to an urgent lack of accessible green space, particularly for residents in nearby social housing without private gardens.
Designed as a free, open, and educational resource, the project placed children and families at its heart, offering opportunities for play, learning, and connection with nature.
Surrounded by major transport infrastructure, the garden transforms a harsh and inhospitable route into a welcoming, nature-rich place. Fully open and ungated, it ensures inclusive access for people of all ages and abilities.
The Bee Garden is now a valued local asset, supporting mental wellbeing, encouraging everyday engagement with nature, and fostering a sense of care and pride within the community, while also enhancing biodiversity in a densely urban environment.
“I really don’t like walking by the expressway but when I come to the part where it’s the Bee Garden I just look at the garden and I feel safer”
